People Over Profits
3 Simple Ways to Grow an Anti-Capitalist Business and Still Make Money
I'm in. Save my seat!hey, small business owner.
Trying to meet all the needs of your business is damn tough, especially when you actually have an ethos and care deeply about the impact of your work in your community.
Factor in your family, friends, health, and all the causes that desperately need your attention (👋 climate change, systemic racism, and broken healthcare system) and it's no wonder you're exhausted and likely not making enough money despite all the hours you labor.
(New term I learned: Existential Exhaustion.)
As a business owner, you've got a ton of competing folks requesting—possibly demanding—your time. You also have deeply rooted values and a desire to create an operating system that doesn't exploit folk's energy, including your own.
It can feel like it’s one choice or the other: either you focus on the business and make money, OR you martyr all your time and energy and help your community…and go broke.

Good business isn't just about making money. It's about supporting our collective liberation. It's about meeting all of our needs, not just some.
Let's explore the middle ground between profit only and giving so much you break your business, and yourself.
Join me for my free class on Thursday, January 27th at 12pm ET:
People Over Profit: 3 Simple Ways to Grow an Anti-Capitalist Business and Still Make Money

From the very beginning of starting your business, you knew you were in it for more than individual wealth building.
You’ve always had a strong inkling that money isn’t inherently evil and business isn’t inherently exploitative, but instead both are merely tools we all have to learn how to use.
Right now you’re looking for concrete steps on how to transform your business into a more equitable one, all while not breaking your business and making zero money.
Anti-capitalist businesses can still be profitable. But more than that, they can truly see to all of our collective needs instead of just a "lucky" few.
When you come to my People Over Profit class live, you’ll walk away with a solid understanding of how to:
- Identify and navigate the 3 buckets of your business. All tasks, positions & roles, and quarterly plans fit into these 3 specific buckets. Learn how to organize them.
- Take a people-first approach to the 3 buckets of your business. These are actions and strategies you can literally put into place as soon as the class ends.
- Transition to non-hierarchical ways of facilitating groups as well as 1:1 engagements. Learn how to deliver your offer in a way that's empowering not just to you, but also to your clients.
- Honor your own or your team's labor when delivering your offer while still hitting your revenue goals for the year, no exploitation or convincing necessary.
- Build transparent and consent-based marketing strategies and sales tactics that bring in folks who truly are the best fit to work with you and your team. (bye-bye scarcity marketing and used car salesman tricks!)
This free class will take place on Thursday, January 27th at 12pm ET.
I truly take your interest in my class to heart and genuinely can't wait to connect with you!
If you’ve been thinking about what else your business can do other than simply build and amass more individual wealth, but also, you kinda need to keep making some money, this class is for you.
There is a fuck ton going on right now in our country and in our world. (remember that term Existential Exhaustion??) A great deal of what's paining our communities right now is a result of capitalism, white supremacy culture, neoliberalism, and patriarchy.
You've got so much power as a business owner. More than you know. And with that power comes responsibility, and hopefully action. It's our responsibility as business owners to contribute to the collective liberation of all our community members, not just some.
I believe we can do this in a way that still honors our businesses, puts food on our tables, fills our hearts and pays our bills.
Join me in looking at how we can use our businesses as a force for good, a tool to actually make some damn change in the world we're living in.
Business is inherently political. It always has been and always will be.
If not now, when?

Hey! I'm Emily.
I'm an Anti-Capitalist Business Coach and fierce advocate for small business owners. I've spent the last 6 years studying capitalism, individualism, neoliberalism and labor. Understanding power is at the root of essentially everything I do.
I've devoted my career to teaching folks how to grow ethics-based and values-driven businesses without exploiting their energy or anyone else's. I’m also a mama to a rad little 2-year-old named Bo and can often be found on the back of my mountain bike or under a barbell (yes, small business owners can do things outside their business).
My mission is to empower womxn-owned business, BIPOC-owned business, queer-owned business and other folx from marginalized communities to generate sustainable wealth and significant impact in their communities.
