want newsletters that make you think, feel, and do something?

Same. And I think you’re in the right place.

I send a mostly-weekly-ish letter to folks who are trying to run values-aligned businesses inside a system that wasn’t built for care, rest, or community.

These emails are about unlearning the grind and remembering how to do business like a human being.

I write about small business ownership, ethical sales and marketing, class, parenting, collective care, economic systems—and trying to live a values-based life in a world that rewards the opposite.

You’ll get real stories, useful tools, honest questions, and maybe even something that helps you feel a little less alone in all this.

how I write: head, heart, hands

I use a framework called Head, Heart, Hands, originally developed by educator Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi, to guide these emails. It’s a simple way of inviting people into full-body learning and change:

  • HEAD — understanding the systems we're in. Think: capitalism, power, class, community economics.

  • HEART — feeling the impact. Building empathy, practicing class consciousness, and naming the grief and joy that comes with choosing a different way.

  • HANDS — taking action. These emails often end with a nudge—a thing to try, a way to show up, or a way to shift your work closer to your values.

about me ✊🏻

I'm Emily Eley. I’m an anti-capitalist business coach and socialist mama of two based in Vermont. I help small business owners and coops grow sustainable, ethical, values-aligned businesses—without replicating the systems of harm we’re trying to dismantle.

I send these emails to stay connected with my community, share what I’m learning (and unlearning), and help folks take tangible steps toward the world we’re all trying to build.

"This email inspired me to take a look at MY OWN QuickBooks needs. Just now I was able to bang out a spreadsheet that does exactly what I use QuickBooks to do and it only took me a couple hours. No million buttons to click either, no vast menus to wade through – just what I need, where I need it. Thanks for planting that seed in my brain!" — Lindsey
