real budgeting tools, built on solidarity instead of extraction.

liberatory finance is a live, 6-week class where we build real budgeting and financial tools together — rooted in solidarity and collective care, not capital accumulation.

your business deserves a financial system rooted in clarity, care, and your actual life.

money is often a loaded topic.

many of us grew up with money stories rooted in scarcity, guilt, or fear—narratives that continue to shape how we engage with finances in our businesses today. maybe you feel overwhelmed when looking at financial reports. maybe you’re making sales but unsure how to pay yourself. maybe you're caring around a bunch of debt and with it a whole backpack of shame.

most business finance advice teaches you how to extract more — more output, more hours, more growth. this series is explicitly anti-capitalist, which doesn't mean anti-money. it means anti-exploitation. and if you're a small business owner without employees, the person most likely being exploited is you.

this is a space to gather real information about your money so you can make decisions rooted in care, not urgency.

what you'll learn: the 6-week series

week 1: my money stories

we start with your money story — what you learned about money when you were young, and how it's still quietly running the show in your business today. then we build a personal budget, but not the way most programs do it. we look at everyone and everything that depends on you — the people, the animals, the land — and what they actually need. this is the piece most business finance programs skip entirely, and it's where your pricing and your business budget really start to take shape.

week 2: understanding my finances

for a lot of people, this is the first time they've ever looked squarely at all the money moving in and out of their business. a lot of shame tends to surface here, and we hold space for that — this isn't a session you push through, it's one you're accompanied through.

week 3: integration week

no new material. this week is here so everything from week 2 has room to settle before we keep building.

week 4: designing cash flow projections

so many small business owners live in a constant state of reacting — putting out whatever fire or crisis is in front of them. this week is about stepping out of that for a bit and giving yourself room to look ahead: where do you actually want the business to go, and what pieces need to be in place to start getting there?

week 5: paying myself

this one can be hard, because it often surfaces a real truth: you might not be paying yourself what you actually need. the goal here isn't to squeeze more out of yourself — this isn't about making a gallon of orange juice out of a single orange. it's about having real information so you can make an informed choice about what happens next.

week 6: integration + wrap-up

a second week to let it all settle, revisit anything that didn't stick, and leave with a plan you actually trust.

this sounds dope. save my seat!

what comrades are saying...

about me

hey, 👋  i'm emily. i'm an anti-capitalist business coach, speaker on post-capitalist economics, and organizer. for 9 years, I've helped small business owners see clearly how capitalism shapes their relationship to money, then build pricing, budgets, and pay structures rooted in care instead of endless growth. most of the people I work with are both the boss and the worker in their own business — and I help them stop treating themselves like a resource to extract from. I'm also a mama to two rad humans, gardener, and amateur carpenter!

if the work we're collectively doing here excites you, check out the liberatory marketing series and my free office hours as well.

i'm jazzed to be in community with you!

more on why this series exists

capitalism and money aren't the same thing. capitalism is a system that asks us to extract, compete, and grow without end. money is just a tool. this series is about learning to use that tool without turning it — or yourself — into a machine for extraction.

that distinction matters a great deal for solo business owners, because without a boss or employees to point to, it's easy to become both the exploiter and the exploited. this series is about noticing that pattern and building something different: no shame, no judgment, real solidarity with the other people in the room, and tools you actually walk away able to use.
